Avastar is an excellent Blender add-on for character creation and animation used by hundreds of creators in Second Life.

We've been made aware that on the 4th of February, the Avastar website was compromised. The compromised website was forwarding users to malicious advertising sites delivering downloads infected with malware (viruses). This was quickly fixed, however the site was compromised again yesterday.

UPDATE for clarity: The Avastar team do not believe that the Avastar download (or any of their other downloads) themselves were infected. However, the infection pushed users to third party advertising sites, some of which delivered infected payloads.

The security hole has been plugged (for good this time!), but if you have downloaded Avastar in the last few days, we highly recommend that you scan your PC with an up-to-date virus scanner.

We would like to give a big shout-out to the Avastar team for quickly identifying and fixing this problem.
